Entry Requirements: Academic Requirements:Applicants must meet the following criteria for admission into the programme:42 credits at NCEA level 3 from the NZQA approved subject list including: * a minimum of 14 credits in each of two subjects, and * a further 14 credits from no more than two additional subjects or NZQA approved DomainsOR* Have a minimum of 60 credits at NCEA Level 2 across four subjects (15 credits per subject) including English and a Science subject or Physical Education. * A minimum of 14 credits at Level 1 or higher in Mathematics or Pangarau on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF)* A minimum of 8 credits at Level 2 or higher in English or Te Reo Maori, 4 credits of which must be in Reading and 4 credits in Writing,OR* Applicants who do not meet the academic requirements noted above will need to provide attested evidence through an interview demonstrating aptitude, ability to study at degree level and appropriate work or other discipline related experience Applicants must be prepared to sign a form for consent for disclosure if information for the NZ Police. A criminal record will not automatically exclude an applicant form entry to the programme. Person with convictions for violence for against a person will not be considered.Interview Requirements: Applicants without academic requirements will be interviewed as described above. Aim of Qualification: Bachelor of Applied Sport and Exercise Science graduates will be able to:- Apply reflective skills to manage coaching strategies and practices in diverse industry settings in sport, recreation and/or exercise settings - Apply theory based on research and trends to analyse and/or develop activities and programmes that meet the needs of a diverse range of users within the sport, recreation and/or exercise industries - Apply effective business, management and organisational skills in an applied nature appropriate for the current and future settings of sport, recreation and exercise industries- Integrate and apply concepts and theories of exercise science to analyse and/or develop health and wellness solutions to meet the needs of individuals, groups, and/or communities.- Demonstrate leadership through constructive and collaborative working, in safe, innovative, ethical and professional practices within the sport, recreation and/or exercise industries.
Contents: Content includes human anatomy, physiology and biochemistry, sport management and administration, nutrition, applied coaching, applied exercise programming, assessment and rehabilitation of injuries, massage and practicum.
Assessment: Formative assessment will be constant and ongoing. This will be used as a monitoring tool to provide feedback and feed forward to students as their work develops. Summative assessments to be used will include: written laboratory reporting, practical workshops, practical coaching sessions and written coach observations, written tests, assignments, learning logs
